Makindu Vocational Program

History

Jan and Marty Johnson have been supporters of the Makindu Children's Centre for years.  In addition, they have traveled to Kenya four times and have observed the Centre firsthand. Their visits to Kenya changed their lives. They realized how great the needs were in this country of extreme poverty, as well as the lack of opportunities.  Consequently in 2015, they made the decision to provide funding to build a school(MATC) for adolescent girls and boys starting on a small scale with two programs, dressmaking and beauty therapy. They started the non-profit agency, Makindu Vocational Program, in 2016. The purpose was to support the school both financially,as well as act in a supportive role to the Kenyan Board of Directors.
